Can I backup database using SQL server 2005 express to CD or DVD

Hi,

I tried to backup a database in MSSQL 2005 using Management studio express edition directly to CD. The CD is formated with Sonic DLA. I'am getting this error message:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express

Backup failed for Server 'adilpc\sqlexpress'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.2047.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Backup+Server&LinkId=20476

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Write on "D:\Test" failed: 87(The parameter is incorrect.) (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.2047.00&LinkId=20476

Is it possible to backup directly to a CD or am I missing something? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tnx

Adil

Hello

It's impossible to backup with SQL DServer 2005 Express directly to CD.

You can backup only to a file on a tape drive or a hard disk ( local or over a network connection ).

Afterwards, you have to copy this file to a CD

Sorry but SQL Server 2005 Express is free

It' possible with the standard, workgroup,Enterprise editions

Have a nice day

can clustering use as load balacing

I want to have 3 MSSQL server that work at same time on shared
database(all opened a single data file on SAN for example). And request
for queries are send to those parallel and same sql servers to archive
more processing power and fail over feature?act as load balancing?
what can I do for load balancing heavy traffic queries like which can
done on web server?
thanks
SQL Server does not support shared-disk clustering for load balancing, though
there is a feature in SQL2005 called scalable shared database that allows you
to present the same database via a LUN to multiple SQL2005 instances for
read-only access.

Dear Linchi,
Thanks for your response.
What you mean about sharing datafile?
For example I have A database named T1 with T1.mdf and want to have
another Database on other server(or same server to start test) and have
read only access to above T1.mdf? how implement it? which steps should I do?
I tried but failed because of "can create already exist file error"
Thanks

You can not do this
The limitation is NTFS, NTFS you can only have on server accessing the
volume at a time.
You can not do this on the same host either as SQL will have a problem
(cache comes to mind first)
the answer to your original question:
Q: can clustering be used as load balancing for SQL ?
A: no

correct, but that is a "static" disk, presented RO to multiple hosts
you cannot have one host "writing" to and others "reading" from the same
disk

Can anyone Help Me??

Hi gurus,
I have been trying to export my mssql tables into mysql database using DTS. But I get a very strange error for some of my mssql tables which have "text" and "ntext" as field datatypes. The error message that i was gettins is,
"Query based insertion or updating of BLOB values is not supported".
But iam not using any BLOB values in my tables.
So if anyone has any solution for this please let me know.
Thanking you.Are using ODBC to connect the database in ur package?
Try to use SQL Oledb driver.
download latest service pack of SQL Server
download latest MDAC also,if it is not latest.|||I do not think this is going to work. when the error says blob it is talking about the text columns. avoid using text and ntext if at all possible. it usually not really needed. Find the max len of the exisiting data and perhaps change your data type.
