Can I have SQL server clear a value after a certain amount of time?

I have an application that allows users to "reserve" a certain time and location for practice sessions. I want them to look at a web form that shows which times are available and then allows them to select an open slot and then submit this form with some personal information. My problem is that as soon as they select an open slot, other users should see that this slot is no longer available. On the other hand, if someone selects an open slot and then takes too long to type in their personal information, I want it somehow to kick them out and re-open this slot back up.

I know that I can create a field called 'status' in my database that gets turn to something like 'pending' as soon as the first user clicks on an open slot, but how would I turn this field back to the 'open' state if the user took too long to enter their data?

Any help would be surely appreciated.

Cheers,
AzFyou can store the time the page was requsted in some variable and check against some preset time like 5 min or 10 min...also when do you set the slot as reserved...as soon as the user clicks on the spot or at the end of the page after the user finished entering all the info...? i would suggest doing the latter...

Can I Copy Structure from One Location (server) to Another (server)

hi all,

i am develpoing an application, and using SQL 2000. i have some of the client. and my devloping as well as the database modifiction is under construction... and now i want to copy the newly added feature such as new table, view as well as some new columns of existing table.. etc.. to Client server..

is there any easier way to copy structure to client side without affecting its data.

Tejas Kishanwala

Easier way ? the answer is NO.......... In such scenario , if u have a systamatic method then it is very easier to handle multiple development server. Before applying any change to master Developemnt server u create a script for the particular modification and apply that in master and distribute the script to others also. Otherwise there are third party tool available for it. u can try that.

Madhu

|||Hi,
thanx for reply.

pls. give me the name of some of the third party tool............

Be aware that also the visual Studio for Database professional has a funcationality to do this. You can compare two database for schema or data differences and create alter / update scripts to change the target database and to keep them in sync. As the tool is integrated within visual Studio and it has some other interesting features for development I would suggest you to check this out.

Can I copy database files without dismounting them

Can I copy database files without dismounting them and attach them
from a different location.
I want to maintain two identical copies.
Thanks.Hello!
Yes, of course you can do that by using BACKUP \ RESTORE.
Back up your database and restore it on the other instance or SQL Server.
You may get more information about BACKUP and RESTORE from the following

Why won't this work?

you get by detaching it.

Can I add a link in a users "My Reports" to a report on a different report server?

We are in the process of commissioning a new reporting server. In the interim, I want to be able to update/modify reports and publish to one location only, and publish links to the users "My Reports" on the old server. Any ideas folks?

Report Manager only talks to a single server, so you can't mix reports from one server with another.

A quick workaround would be to upload an HTML file as a resource into the user's My Reports folder which redirects them to the new server.

can i add a column to an article in transactionalreplication

hi
how can i add a column to the table at some specified location after publishing the article in transactional replication.is there any procedure or method.please explain
thanks®ards
reddy
Reddy,
sp_repladdcolumn is the standard way to add a column to replication. However
this will not permit you to place the column at a specific position in the
table. This is not normally an issue, as TSQL is not usually written in a
way that makes it order dependant - columns are referred to by name and not
by position. If this is a requirement for you, you'll need to drop the
publication, add the column then recreate the publication.
HTH,
Paul Ibison
|||paul,
thank you.
in transactional replication on subscriber side we have to set autoid property to no.now i am setting this manually.
we have script to set the autoid 'not for replication',like that any script you have to set the autoid property NO for all tables in a replication.please help.
thanks®ards
reddy
|||Reddy,
I haven't used this myself, but Hilary has posted up a
reference to a script he uses:
http://communities2.microsoft.com/co.../newsgroups/en
-us/default.aspx?
dg=microsoft.public.sqlserver.replication&mid=2239 a0b8-
d572-4d86-ac92-5109662bef6b
This updates to Yes - Not for Replication. However, you
could modify this script for your use. You'll still need
to alter the script for each table though.
Also I'd like to know a little more about why the
subscriber columns were originally set to have an identity
attribute and now it's being removed - (it's normally the
opposite :-)).
Regards,
Paul Ibison
|||paul,
first i will explain the way how i am doing transactional replication.first i will change the autoid column of publisher to not for replication.then i will restore the same in subscriber and set the auto id property to no.why means in transactional publis
her it self handles the autoid property so no need in subscriber.
is there any mistake in the above process please reply
thanks & regards
reddy
|||Reddy,
this is correct for a nosync initialization for standard
transactional replication (RO subscribers).

Can anyone suggest whey I dont get any results with this search?

Can anyone suggest whey I dont get any results with this search?

SQL reads:

SELECT SupplierName, Location, ShortDescription
FROM Query1
WHERE 'TimberSpecies' LIKE '%MMColParam%' AND 'CategoryTable' LIKE '%MMColParam2%' AND 'Location' LIKE '%MMColParam3%'

MMColParam 1 Request.Form("keywordSearch")
MMColParam2 2 Request.Form("location")
MMColParam3 3 Request.Form("category")

Mally.you have WHERE 'TimberSpecies' LIKE

'TimberSpecies' is a string

you probably want to try WHERE TimberSpecies LIKE

TimberSpecies is a column|||for the latest on this, please see http://www.dbforums.com/t1205123.html|||I understand what you are saying there but when i do as mentioned.

SELECT SupplierName, Location, ShortDescription
FROM Query1
WHERE TimberSpecies LIKE '%MMColParam%' AND CategoryTable LIKE '%MMColParam2%' AND Location LIKE '%MMColParam3%'

I get the following error when testing the SQL

[Microsoft][OBDC Microsoft Access Driver] Too few paramaters. Expected 1.|||test your query in access first, before testing it via dreamweaver

also, if it's access, you'll want to try asterisks instead of percent signs as the wildcard characters

what's Query1? does it return those five columns? is CategoryTable actually a column?
