Is this done by registering the "IP" instead of the server name'

MPYou can use the IP address instead of the server name. Just try 127.0.0.1 to
connect to your local server. If you think the ip addresses are confusing in
Enterprise Manager, you can use the Client Network Utility to set up an
alias that you can use instead.
