I want to install the following on my machine:
MSDE 2000 Release A
SQL Server 2000 SP4
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition with SP1
SQL Server 2000 Express with SP1
Management Studio
Management Studio Express
The only one that I'm concerning is whether Management Studio and Management Studio Express can coexist in one machine.

NO. Products have been mutually exclusive since early betas.sqlTitle says it all, really.
Visual Studio has a "Reverse Engineer" option but the only export option appears to be to a graphics-definition database.

These designs are just graphical representations of the physical structures, they are stored in a series of tables whose names start with dt. If you then copy that database to SQL 2005 and set the compat level to 90 then the 2005 diagram tool should be able to read it.|||Hi Euan,

If you go to the Properties tab for your report in Report Manager, there should be a link called 'Edit' in the Report Definition section. If you click this, you can save the RDL file as it is on the server. Then, just import that report back into Visual Studio.

You can either download the RDL using the webinterface ("Edit item") or write an pplication which pulls the information from the report server. There are some samples in the samples directory which show how to do this.

However, when I try to debug a stored procedure on a remote server running SQL Server 2000 the debug process is not accessible (i.e. I can choose 'Step Into Stored Procedure' and it seems to run but I cannot debug it).
Am I trying to do something that just can't be done? Is this a compatibility issue between Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2000? Or am I missing something?

you can do this by using the server explorer (ctrl+alt+s)
in the server explorer right clcik the object in the server explorer
then click modify

The 'Modify' option is available in SQL Server Management Studio Object Explorer but provides no debugging.
Maybe I have something set up wrong?

The answer is yes its possible but it depends on the security configuration of the remote server.

It's impossible to backup with SQL DServer 2005 Express directly to CD.
You can backup only to a file on a tape drive or a hard disk ( local or over a network connection ).
Afterwards, you have to copy this file to a CD

I have a 2005 Express DB I wish to attach to using the 2005 Mgt Studio Client (Not the express version, but the full blown 2005 Mgt Studio Client from the SQL 2005 Standard Edition Install disk). Can this be done, or can I only use the 2005 Mgt Studio Express Edition Client?

Upon installation of SQL Server 2005, I opened the SQL Server Management Studio, connected using Windows Authentication and went to the security node in the tree. I created a log in called "TestLogin". I restarted my server just to make sure everything took and when I tried to log in using TestLogin via SQL Server Authentication, I get the below error. I have mixed mode enabled as well as named pipes. I am not sure what the issue is or what to try next. I even get the same error when trying to use "sa".

Calculations are added to a new or existing cube using "Business Intelligence Development Studion" (BIDS). You could generate the script for a cube and then add the calculation by hand, but it is much easier to do using BIDS. If you simply want to create and test a calculation using SQL Server Management Studio you can add a query scoped member using a WITH clause in the MDX editor. Here is a simple example that can be run against Adventure Works:
WITH MEMBER Measures.[Internet Sales x 2]
AS
[Measures].[Internet Sales Amount] * 2
SELECT
{[Measures].[Internet Sales Amount],
[Measures].[Internet Sales x 2] } ON COLUMNS

If I understand your question correctly the answer is no. The WITH MEMBER calculation is only good for the life of the query. If you want to add a measure to a cube that can be used by others accessing the cube then I would use BIDS.

In SSMS connect to the AS server where your cube is located. Expand the database and cube folders until you find the cube you want to add a calculated member to. Right click on the cube and then choose:
Script Cube as -> ALTER to -> New Query Editor Window
Then do a search on the script for MdxScripts. You should now see the calculation script for the cube. Edit the script to add in your CREATE MEMBER statement and then run the script. As long as your MDX is error free, you should now be able to see your new calculated member when you access the cube.

I am tring to access the SQL 2005 Express which installed in remote machine. Front end app is on Visual Studio 2005. Try to connect SQL Express using the application Layer which is installed on the computer where SQL Express is installed. Could not fetch data from the SQL Express. What could be the problem?

I need to create a stored procedure (SQL 2005). I did it in C# (Visual Studio). The .dll file (inside) uses web services of Project Server 2007 (I just need to log on, create a project and log out). I prepared 2 files (exactly the same code): dll an exe. the .exe works fine. the problem is with .dll file (stored procedure in SQL)...
by the way: I created serialization file with sgen tool.
the problems start when I am trying to register these 2 .dlls in SQL server. I can do that in unsafe mode only. when I am trying to register them in externall access (normal dll) and safe mode (serialization .dll) I am getting errors:

I have built a solution in Visual Studio 2005 to do this. In order to follow the article as closely as possible, I have three projects in the solution:
1) The web site including the web service.
2) A SQL Server Project for the Stored Procedure, which calls a User Defined Function, defined in the same project. This successfully deploys both to SQL Server 2005 and allows me to step into them to debug. The code of the User Defined Function (from the above article) is:

I can't find anything useful about the cause of this. Has anyone else succeeded in calling a web service from SQL Server 2005?

We have a user-defined function that can be called directly via SQL (in SQL Server Management Studio) without error. We would like to use this function to populate a column, whist data is being processed within Integration Services. Using an OLE DB Command transformation to achieve this would seem the most appropriate.
The following was inserted for the SQLCommand property:
