Can I Install Enterprise edition on Windows 2000 Server as in Small Business Ser
We have Windows 2000 Small Business Server
In control panel/System the operating system is identified
as
Windows 2000 server service pack 4
Microsoft pages on System requirements for SQL Server
Enterprise edition says requires Windows 2000 Server
The operating system I have seems to be Windows 2000
Server even though it has some junk in it making it
Windows 2000 Small Business Server.
Question can i Install SQL Server 2000 Enterprise?
I need this because i need to use Indexed Views which do
not exist in Sql Server standard edition.
THe answer varies depending on whome i ask at Microsoft.
Apreciate any advice.Hi
There is no mention of SBS on the system requirements at
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/sysreqs/2000/default.asp
even though SQL Server comes with it!!
I have never tried installing this onto a specific SBS system, so can not be
100% but I am pretty sure that it is no different. If you do help/about
windows in Windows Explorer and it says Microsoft (R) Windows Version 5.0
then I don't think there would be any reason for it not to.

Can I install both Management Studio and Management Studio Express on same machine?
I want to install the following on my machine:
MSDE 2000 Release A
SQL Server 2000 SP4
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition with SP1
SQL Server 2000 Express with SP1
Management Studio
Management Studio Express
The only one that I'm concerning is whether Management Studio and Management Studio Express can coexist in one machine.
Thanks for any help,
Peter
NO. Products have been mutually exclusive since early betas.sqlCan I install a Enterprise version analysis service on a Standard version of SQL 2005 server?
Hi all,
Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?
Thank you very much
Tony
Yes. This is supported as in SQL Server 2005, Standardard SKU and Enterprise SKU can be installed side by side successfully. Of course, their instancenames must be distinct.

Can I implement replication between MS SQL Server Enterprise Edition and MSDE?
One of our customers has requested that he wants to have data on his PC and
synchronize his data as needed.
How can I implement this?
Is it possible to synchronize data between MS SQL Server and MSDE?
Or is there any other solution?
Any advice or hint would be appreciated.AFAIR, yes. But you cannot have the MSDE as replication publisher.
Best regards,
Benny

Can I get an English version of electron book
When I download Reporting service trial version.
I always get a Chinese version thought I have choosen an English version.
The translation of electron book is not good, so I want to read in English.
How can I get a English version of electron book of Reporting Service? When you install reporting services, we include all languages in a single
distribution. We derive the language for the install from the OS language
settings. You can change this by setting the language for non-Unicode
programs to English. To get the english version:
Start
-->Control Panel
-->Regional and Language Options
-->Advanced tab
--> Language for non-Unicode programs - set this to English (United States)
Also, if you can provide examples of where the translation is poor, we would
love to know these so we can make the localization for our documentation
better.

Yes...MSDE is the free, redistributable version of SQL Server. See the

[vbcol=seagreen]
Assuming that you've purchased a licensed version of one of the SQL Server

you need. Here's a matrix that may help you decide

can i create database using backup file in SQl server 2005 Express edition
hi
i have a database file backup which is having no extension (eg saims) . Can i create a database using this backup in sql server expression edition.
Or else is there any way to get the .mdf file from sql server 2005 full edition??????
Thanx in advance
Hi
Is it possible you don't see the extention mdf just because your folder options in windows xp tell you to "hide extentions of known file types"?
Just create a new database and force it to backup on the file you have.
Hope this helps!
Wim
|||no actually its a text file which is backup file taken from a sql server 2005 enterprise edition.
So now i want original file (.mdf) from DE since i don't have sql server2005 full version.
I have DE that comes with .net 2005
can i create a database from backup file
hi
is it possible to create a database using backup in sql server DE?
like we can do in full edition using restore option........
yes its possible to create a db by restoring it from backup file.......regardless of the edition i believe.......|||In order to RESTORE a non-existant database, it may be necessary to first create an 'empty' database with the same name, and then RESTORE over the top of that.|||Be aware that the files might not be stored on the same location as the original files were (e.g. the drive letter of the former server does not exists). You will have to use the with move option then (or simply use the gui and specify other file locations as you will see during the recovery that the original file locations are stored within the backup set.Jens K. Can i connect to SQLExpress instance using (local)
Hello,
I am using the following connection string to connect to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my local PC.
string sqlstr = "Server=(local);Database=MyDB;User ID=sa;Password=sa;Trusted_Connection=False";
And it gives me the following error. The string works fine in computer with SQL Server 2000 instance but fails with 2005. The string also fails for "Server = localhost".
However the string works very fine if I use the name of Server 2005 i.e ./SQLExpress
===================================
Cannot connect to (local).
===================================
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
Error Number: 2
Severity: 20
State: 0
Now the main problem is that, of course I could use a named instance, but since I am embedding the Connection String in a dll file so that any user can use it to connect it to the local instance of the SQL Server 2005 installed in his/her computer, I need to use "server = localhost". Doesn't SQL 2005 support this. If yes, where could i find option to enable it?
I have enabled every option available in surface area configuration for SQL Server 2005, but nothing seems to help out. I even use local as well as remote connections using both TCP/IP and named pipes.
Can nyone help me out?
Can I change the language settings after installation?
Hi All,
I have sql server 2005 dveloper edition installed on my XP pro. Both are English editions. I used the default language settings to install sql server 2005. The XP Pro has asian-language support installed and supports Chinese input.
I have tables with columns in nvarchar. But I can not input Chinese into the columns directly in the management studio or using sql statement.
How could I change the language so the Chinese chracaters being accepted?
Thanks a lot!
Gavin
You can change the collation sequence at the database, table, and column level. If you didn't specify any options, then the database will be created with your default collation sequence from the instance. If you change the collation sequence on the database or table to one compatible by the Chinese character set you are using, then you can input that data. You are going to need to drop and recreate the table since switching the collation sequence on the database doesn't automatically do so on the table.|||
Thanks Michael.
I remembered that it's not easy to do this in the previous versions (maybe I'm wrong?). So I think it is the same for 2005. When I was checking properties of the database, I noticed collation could be changed. I tried and it worked for me. I did not check the table and column level but I believe your are right. I may try them later.

Hello
It's impossible to backup with SQL DServer 2005 Express directly to CD.
You can backup only to a file on a tape drive or a hard disk ( local or over a network connection ).
Afterwards, you have to copy this file to a CD
Sorry but SQL Server 2005 Express is free
It' possible with the standard, workgroup,Enterprise editions

Can I access SQL Server 2005 via a Window XP pro workgroup network?
Hi,
I am new to SQL Server and I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express or Stnadard Edition on a computer runing XP pro on a XP's workgroup network using a router. Can I access the the database from another computer running XP pro on the same network? If I can, what setting do I need when installing SQL 2005 in order to do this?
Any help is appricated.
Make only sure that you enable remote connections, see the Screencast for this on my site for a detailed explanation.HTH, jens Suessmeyer.

Can Enterprise Evalution Edition be installed on Windows XP SP2 Home Edition now?
Thanks.
I don't believe so, enterprise edition required advanced server.
You can install developer edition which has the same functionality as enterprise edition.
|||? No. I believe that only Developer Edition and Express Edition can be installed on XP Home SP2. Developer Edition allows you to test the behavior of Enterprise Edition. Developer Edition is about $50 retail and is also available on MSDN (I'm not sure if all subscription levels include it). can connect using sql query analyzer but not osql or isql
advanced server. It starts successfully and using SQL query analyzer, I can
connect to it using windows authentication and execute sql statements without
a problem.
But when I used isql (either just isql or isql [-U login id]), I got the
following error message:
Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1:
Login failed for user 'Administrator'.
DB-Library: Login incorrect.
If I use osql,
I got:
Login failed for user 'Administrator'.
Weirdly, NO logon information is recorded in ERRORLOG.
In SQL query analyzer, I used the login id Administrator, which is what I
used to login to Windows.
After installation of sql server, we changed the password of Windows
Administrator account, so there might be a password mismatch. But I can use
the new password
to connect to sql server in SQL query analyzer, but not osql or isql.
I tried osql and isql with both the new password and the old one(not sure if
it is correct), but neither of them worked.
What might be the cause?
Thank you very much,
I think you're confusing Windows authentication with SQL
authentication. When you try connecting with osql try the -E (trusted
login) parameter rather than -U Administrator. With Windows
authentication you don't specify a password as the windows security
token for your windows account is used instead (which has already been
authenticated by a domain controller).
