Hi,
I am trying to improve my data export operation. At this point I need to
disable implicit transactions when I use insert into [Linked Table] command.
How can disable transactions when I do a distributed insert or use DTS to
export table data ?
Thank you,
MaxHello Max,
You could disable transaction by right click the
package->Properties->Advanced, uncheck "transaction"

Can a stored procedure use the OpenRowSet function to get DB2
Linked servers was our first thought, but we don't have that. We'd have to
purchase MSFT Integration Server to get linked servers to work w/our DB2
databases, and we haven't purchased that.
So the linked server route is not an option for us at this time.
Other ideas?

Calling user defined function from other server
I have UDF in a database on SQL2000 server. Is it possible to call this UDF from other server (SQL2005)? I did setup a linked server to SQL2000
Call to the following function returns an error:
Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid column name 'srv2000'.
select [srv2000].db_test.dbo.F_TEST()
You cannot call remote UDFs in SQL Server right now. So you will have to use pass-through query using OPENQUERY to call the UDF or EXECUTE AT in SQL Server 2005.
-- SQL Server 2000/2005
select i from openquery([srv2000], 'select db_test.dbo.F_TEST() as i')
-- SQL Server 2005
exec('select db_test.dbo.F_TEST() as i') at [srv2000]
-- Or
declare @.i int
exec('select ? = db_test.dbo.F_TEST() ', @.i output) at [srv2000]
select @.i
Calling UDF over Server Link
For some reason, over a server link, the following call to a UDF on a linked server does not work, it seems it is treating the UDF as a table.
The same UDF called on the local server works fine.
--call/select from function
SELECT
MASTERID
FROM
PAUL.RISK_DB.dbo.FNTRADEFILEPRICE('10/2/2006')
error:
Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 31, Line 5
Line 5: Incorrect syntax near '('.
Thanks.I created a sproc that calls the function, works like a charm. Still does not expain why calling the function natively from a remote server does not work, this is a work-around though.
Thanks,
Schmed.

Calling stored procs on AS/400
I'm already able to pull data out of the AS/400 tables using a linked server from SQL 2000 SP3.
What I'd like to do is to be able to run stored procs on the AS/400 from SQL Server. Not sure what SPs are called in AS/400 parlance, but you get the idea.
Anyone done this before?
If not, any idea how to kick-off any kind of SQL task on the AS400 from SQL Server?
Hi,
Generally we do not support executing remote stored procedures if linked
server is non-SQL Server. I assume that you are using DB2. You may check if
the following can work on DB2.
1. Create a trigger on a table in DB2 database, which calls stored
procedures. The triggering action may be insertion, update, deletion.
2. Execute openquery to the DB2 linked server from SQL Server (e.g. insert
into table, etc.)
Thus the trigger can fire the stored procedure. I understand that it may be
inconvenient for you. However, we do not have better method.
If you use ADO or ADO.NET in code, you can execute the stored procedure on
DB2.

Calling stored procs on AS/400
I'm already able to pull data out of the AS/400 tables using a linked server
from SQL 2000 SP3.
What I'd like to do is to be able to run stored procs on the AS/400 from SQL
Server. Not sure what SPs are called in AS/400 parlance, but you get the id
ea.
Anyone done this before?
If not, any idea how to kick-off any kind of SQL task on the AS400 from SQL
Server?Hi,
Generally we do not support executing remote stored procedures if linked
server is non-SQL Server.
If you use ADO or ADO.NET in code, you can execute the stored procedure on
DB2.
