WHEN I REINSTALLED MSDE THE MSQL7/DATA FOLDER HAS MYDB.MDF AND MYDB.LDF FILES IN THERE.
THE NEW INSTALLATION WILL NOT RECOGNISE THESE FROM THE OLD INSTALLATION.
IS THERE ANY WAY TO REINSTATE THESE DBS OTHER THAN FROM THE BACK UP THAT I DID NOT DO?
HOPING AND PRAYING IN YOUR HANDS O LORD GURU.
Hi Lofty,
You can "reattach" the database. Take a look at the sp_attach_db stored proc
in BOL.
Basically, you can just say:
sp_attach_db 'newdbname','pathtomdffile','pathtoldsfile'

Can I create and share snapshot folder on computer running IIS, but not computer running S
Hi all,
Usually , I will create a snapshot folder and share it on computer
running SQL Server for MR.
Now I have a question:
Can I create a snapshot folder on another computer which is running
IIS (For merge replication with SQL CE). The computer which is running
SQL Server was not installed IIS,just be installed SQL Server only.
Thanks,
The short answer is yes. Indeed, this would probably be considered the
"accepted" configuration -- one computer running IIS and one computer
running SQL Server. You are simply creating a virtual directory that your
publication is pointing toward to deposit the snapshot. However, your
publication must be able to access that virtual folder and if connectivity
is an issue then I would see you having problems. Note also that your SQLCE
server agent must be located in that virtual folder.

Can I copy a report in Report Manager?
I'm a newbie to reporting services.
Is it possible to copy a report to more than one folder in the Report
Manager? We have a staging area where all of our reports are being
deployed. They are then moved to specific folders for various clients.
Some clients will use the same report, so it will exist in more than
one location. Is there a way to copy the report in Report Manager to
the respective folders or do they need to be uploaded to each folder?
Thanks in advance,
GabeHi,
In a word, no! You can upload it multiple times to different places.
You can also create "linked" reports, these are basically shortcuts to
one report although I doubt this will work in your scenario because you
will be tied to the one set of datasources.
So I'm afraid you will have to upload or deploy and move, upload or
deploy and move etc.
I guess you could look at the ReportServer catalog file and decipher it
to work out how to copy but I wouldn't recommend it!

Can Flash work with SQL 2005 for non-web application?
I am not sure if this is the right folder to post, but currently I'm considering using Flash as an interface, the application at www.mobik.com seems impressive, simple and sweet. But I'm wondering if I can build desktop application with flash and SQL2005 as backend for all the processing. at the same time, the flash shall be getting updates from a server. Possible?I would think so. I have never written anything in flash but there must be apis for it to communicate to the outside world. How else would all those flash games be able to save their high scores? :)
if you can use COM or .net from inside flash then you could certainly do it.|||wouldn't that make the whole thing very messy?
I'm trying to reduce different technologies/platform to be used within a single application..... if not because .net 3.0 is also not impressive enough, I wouldn't have look at flash......
I think there is not many people doing it. But I heard Crystal Excelsiors is Flash base.|||again, I have no experience with Flash, so I should probably shut up. :)
what I do have experience with is the standard apis that clients use to communicate with SqlServer. Those are things like SqlClient (.net), OLEDB (com), etc.
I'd be surprised if Macromedia had their own api for talking to databases however. I bet they just tell people to use existing apis. just a guess.
If I were you I wouldn't use flash to build a non-web GUI client though. I'd use winforms and C#.|||winforms is not user friendly enough, my users has no keyboard, everything is accessed through touch panel. I guess it is easier to achieve "WOW" UI with Flash, do correct me if I'm wrong :)
