Can I inherited from a template report?

I must make many report in my project.

All the reports must have header of company name and footer of page number.

Can I desgin a template custom report, then all reports in my project are inherited from it?

This is very easy to do if you are developing your reports in Visual Studio. The templates for reports are stored at the following path:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject\

You can create a template report and save it in this location, and then when you want to use it, from within your report project, click on the 'Project' menu option, and select 'Add New Item...'. When the dialog opens, you should see all .rdl files located in the above directory.

Hope that helps - Dan

Can I Force SQL to Accept INSERT List of Values Less Than Number of Columns?

I have a canned application that does INSERTs with lists of values without
column lists. The table has one additional (uniqueidentifier) column for merge
replication, so the application is inserting 7 values, but there are 8
columns. Is there a way to tell SQL to accept it anyway and just fill the
columns from left to right until it runs out of data? I hope so, because I
have no access to the source code.
--EricHello Eric. you could try with renaming that table (the one you insert in)
and creating a view with old name of the table you just renamed. In the view
definition specify all fields from the renamed table except the one that you
added for replication(uniqueidentifier) .
Hope this works,

columns in the table must match the number of columns in the INSERT
statement (less the IDENTITY column, if any).
You could set a default for the uniqueidentifier column, rename the table
and then create a view under the original name containing all except the
extra column:
CREATE TABLE newname (a INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, b INTEGER NOT NULL, c
UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWID() ...)
CREATE VIEW oldname
AS
SELECT a,b
FROM newname
Then find the programmer and make him fix his code.

Can I do this Query?

I need to create a query that returns the number of boxes required per custo
mer order. The following is an example of what I am trying to achieve
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .35
2 1 1
2 2 .25
Order No 1 should return a required box number of 3. Whereby Order 2 would
return a required box number of 2.
This query is driving me crazy. Can I do this?
Any help would be gratefully received.

I can see where you are coming from now. I'll explain in some more detail b
ecause my original request may be a bit misleading.
If you look at the lines for Order 1 there are 3 in total.
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .35
For the first item on the order (Line 1) the box capacity is 75%. This basi
cally means that the item will fill 75% of 1 box. The same applies to Line
2. Line 3 takes up 35% of a box. Therefore to ship this order I need to ge
t 3 boxes (all boxes are the same size).
But if the Order details were as follows
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .25
I could fit all three products into 2 boxes. Therefore my query needs to di
splay 2.
Can I get the query to return this information?

Thanks Uri.
I can see where you are coming from now. I'll explain in some more detail b
ecause my original request may be a bit misleading.
If you look at the lines for Order 1 there are 3 in total.
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .35
For the first item on the order (Line 1) the box capacity is 75%. This basi
cally means that the item will fill 75% of 1 box. The same applies to Line
2. Line 3 takes up 35% of a box. Therefore to ship this order I need to ge
t 3 boxes (all boxes are the same size).
But if the Order details were as follows
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .25
I could fit all three products into 2 boxes. Therefore my query needs to di
splay 2.
Can I get the query to return this information?
Thanks again for your help

Thanks Uri.
I can see where you are coming from now. I'll explain in some more detail because my original request may be a bit misleading.
If you look at the lines for Order 1 there are 3 in total.
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .35
For the first item on the order (Line 1) the box capacity is 75%. This basically means that the item will fill 75% of 1 box. The same applies to Line 2. Line 3 takes up 35% of a box. Therefore to ship this order I need to get 3 boxes (all boxes are the same size).
But if the Order details were as follows
Order No Line No Box Capacity
1 1 .75
1 2 .75
1 3 .25
I could fit all three products into 2 boxes. Therefore my query needs to display 2.
Can I get the query to return this information?
Thanks again for your help

Can I do this by MDX?

My fact table has a field QtyReleased. I would like to know the number of
records with QtyReleased > 1000.
Can we do this in SQL 2005 by MDX?
GuangmingI believe you can, but do you really need to do this with MDX? Why cant you
handle this on transactional side? Just make a field that contains 1 if
QtyReleased > 1000 and 0 if not. Then all you have to do is make a measure
from that field with a simple sum aggregate.
If you really need to do this with MDX look at the count functions..

What you do is to create a view over your fact table and use the view in
your cube instead of using the fact table directly.
The view would look something like the following:
SELECT
..
<column list>
..
, CASE WHEN QtyReleased > 1000 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS QtyOverThreashold
FROM FactTable
Then you create a simple sum based measure over the QtyOverThreashold
column from the view.
If still think you need to do this in MDX (and you may - it's hard to
fully understand your situation over a newsgroup ). Then you need to
use the FILTER() function to give you the IIF type logic.
Assuming that you want to know the number of products with QtyReleased >
1000 the MDX would look something like this...
COUNT(
FILTER(
DESCENDANTS([Products].CurrentMember,,LEAVES)
,[Measures].[QtyReleased] > 1000
)
)
This gets the leaf level descendants of the currently selected member of
the product dimension and counts the number of members with QtyReleased

Can I define global or static variables?

Hi, I need to define a global or static variable, but I don't know how I can do it.
I need to number each "Detail" line, but I can't use the "Record Number" of "Special Fields" because each database record can create more than one detail line. I try to solve this problem using a global or static variable, but if isn't possible, what do you suggest me?

Thanks and sorry for my bad English.I've just done this very thing in a report I've been working on. The method I used is dependent on using a group header along with the details section.

1) Create a formula field (I called mine CounterReset) and use the following formula:
WhilePrintingRecords;
Global numbervar GroupRecCount;
GroupRecCount := 0;

2) Add this field to your group header. You can supress it if you don't want it to show on your report.

3) Crate another formula field (I called mine CountOfRecordsInGroup) and paste the following formula:
WhilePrintingRecords;
Global numbervar GroupRecCount;
GroupRecCount := GroupRecCount + 1;

4) Use this field in your details section as the line number. It will reset to zero when your groupnumber advances and *sounds* like what you are looking for from the description of your problem.

Hope this helps!

Z|||Thank you very much zilonox!! I've been asking this for several days and nobody could help me.

Can I add a record number as data passes through

Hello.

In SSIS, is it possible to add a record number to each row of data as I copy it from the source to the destination.

An example of my source data is below, For each MemberID want to record the number of times it occurs in the table.

MemberID

2898

2899

2899

What I want it to look like when it gets to the destination is:

MemberID RecordNumber

2898 1

2899 1

2899 2

Like an Identity column I suppose, not for the whole table but for each MemberID.

Thanks

Looks possible to me using a custom script component to compare incoming fields to the last set coming in. Would work nicely if the data is sorted.|||

Thanks for the info, I haven't got round to doing this yet but I'm sure it'll work.

Thanks very much, top people!

|||

I've downloaded it and installed it but how do I use it in my packages? Should I now be able to see it in Visual Studio amongst all the other data flow transformation options.

Cheers

The instructions here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/fr-fr/library/ms136125.aspx are for custom tasks but its intuitively similar for custom components. Look for the section entitled "How to use the Task in SSIS Designer"

|||If you just want the row number function, then use the Row Number Tx http://www.sqlis.com/default.aspx?93, as it does not require a sorted input.|||

I still can't do it because when I select 'Choose toolbox items' in the data flow designer it just list what's there already, I only have an option to browse on the COM and .NET components, is this where I should be putting it?

Thanks.

|||

You are looking at the Data Flow page in the Choose Toolbox Items?

You have scolled down to find the transform, in alphabetical order?

Double check this, and perhaps compare with some screenshots here-

Konesans - Frequently Asked Questions - How do I install a task or transform component?
(http://www.konesans.com/faq.aspx#installtask)

If this does not help, on the machine you are running Visual Studio, go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\PipelineComponents, and look for the DLL file. I'm not sure which transform you are trying right now, so I cannot specify the filename for you here. If the file is not there, then it will never show up in Choose Toolbox Items, so did the install fail?

|||

Yes I am.

Yes I have, it's definately not there. I have checked against the link you provided and I cannot see the component in the list.

I am attempting to use the RankTransform component. I think it installed ok as there were no errors. I've searched for the dll ( it's full name is Conchango.SQLServer.SSIS.DataFlow.RankTransform.dll ) found that it is located in C:\Program Files\Microsof SQL Server\90\DTS\CompFldr so this looks like conformation that it has installed ok.

I've copied it to the directory that you specified and opened the 'choose items' again and it was listed, so I've added it.

I'd like to say a big thanks to yourself and Jamie for the help with this, as someone who doesn't know much about Visual Studio and dll's and stuff you've been an massive help.

I'll now try to use it (I'll have to go back to the instructions!) and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again

|||

Ok, the component works great but it is not putting in what I expected it to:

My source data is:

Member Number

2898

2899

2899

I added a sort task to sort it by Member Number ascending.

In the rank transform task I selected Member Number as the sort key and checked the partition box and selected row number as the output.

When the data reached the destination it looked like this:

Member Number Row Number

2898 1

2899 2

2899 3

I'd expected it to look like this:

Member Number Row Number

2898 1

2899 1

2899 2

because I assumed from what I'd selected in the rank transform task that it's essentially running this query:

SELECT [Member Number] , ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY [Member Number] ORDER BY [Member Number]) AS [Row Number]

FROM StatusHistory

which does give me the expected results.

Have I selected the wrong options in the rank transform task or I have I completely got the wrong end of the stick and am trying to use this task for something that it was not designed for?

It's a great thing to have anyway.

Thanks

Bobbins,

Thankyou for making me aware of this. it looks as though the partition functionality might not be working. I'll check it out.

Can I achieve WITH(NOLOCK) on all joins in a stored procedure with a single command?

I have a number of reporting stored procedures that purely list
records and make no changes to the data. I have noticed that some of
these SPs are causing blocks so I am adding the WITH(NOLOCK) hint. For
a simple example :-
Select * from table1 WITH(NOLOCK)
INNER JOIN table2 WITH(NOLOCK) ON table1.UID=table2.UID
INNER JOIN table3 WITH(NOLOCK) ON table1.AnotherID=table3.AnotherID
LEFT OUTER JOIN table4 WITH(NOLOCK) ON table3.ThisID=table4.ThisID
There lots of these and many of them have lots of joins so I'm looking
for a way to apply WITH(NOLOCK) to the whole procedure and save myself
the time it takes to add the hint to each table/join. I know that it
is possible to use SET DEADLOCK_PRIORITY LOW, forcing the procedure to
volunteer as the deadlock victim, but this isn't suitable as I need
the procedure to return it's records.
Does anybody have a suggestion or am I looking ata couple of days of
ctrl-v'ing WITH(NOLOCK) everywhere?
Thanks,

Can connect with IP number but not with machine name

Running MSDE2000A named instance on an XP Pro machine as part of a domain
(W2003 server) , connecting from a client: with a connection
'machinename\instancename' i get no connection ('server not found or accss
denied'); however with the same setup and a connection
'172.0.30.14\instancename' everything works as expected. I can use an alias
for the IP number and that works but an alias for the machine name does not.
With a DHCP server, the IP address isn't permanent so how do I configure the
connection in my application?
More info - Colleagues have suggested that this is a simple DNS problem. But
I can connect to the machine using the DNS names in other apps (e.g. 'my
network Places') - it's just SQL that won't connect.

Can anyone tell me why this returns an empty value?

@.Names is a query string passed in, I need to count the number of records as a result of the below query/

Dim

testAsStringDim sqlConnection3AsNew SqlConnection("data Source=EQ-520-WEB\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=CRDB.MDF;Integrated Security=True")Dim cmdAsNew SqlCommand

Dim returnValueAsObject

cmd.CommandText =

"SELECT COUNT(ReqID) AS Expr1, LineManager FROM TblReqMain GROUP BY LineManager HAVING (LineManager = @.Names)"

cmd.CommandType = Data.CommandType.Text

cmd.Connection = sqlConnection3

cmd.Parameters.Add(

"@.Names", Data.SqlDbType.NVarChar)

sqlConnection3.Open()

cmd.Parameters(

"@.Names").Value = testIf test =""ThenResponse.Write("An error occured")ExitSubElsereturnValue = cmd.ExecuteScalar()

sqlConnection3.Close()

Label6.Text =

"Number " & returnValue

Hi.

your steps is right but you must to be sure the (test) value that have the correct value.

also you must be sure if there is data in the specific value.for example if you trace that test=7 check if there is data must retrive in the query

SELECT COUNT(ReqID) AS Expr1, LineManager FROM TblReqMain GROUP BY LineManager HAVING (LineManager =7)

Hopes that help.

Can 2 SQL servers on domain use same port number?

This might seem very obvious... but my knowledge of SQL 2000 is limited.
We got in a company to install and configure a 2nd SQL server with some new
software onto our domain. They have told us that the 2nd SQL server must us
e a different port number to the 1st SQL server. Is this the case? It make
s no sense to me and is now
causing a problem with another application we wanted to put onto the SQL ser
ver as well. This program has the port address hard coded, and can not be c
hanged which currently means we can't use it. (The 1st server also has a si
milar piece of software on
it which also can't cope with a different port number, so I can't just switc
h them and the old server can't cope with anything more being added to it.)
If they have to have different port numbers, why? I thought traffic went by
IP address and then port numbers.
Many thanks
E TaylorYou need different port numbers if you are on the same machine.
